There has never been a better time to consider a career in the nursing field. The nursing shortage in the US has been worsening for several years and there appears to be no end in sight. The demand for nursing services has been growing steadily due to an aging population, greater access to health insurance, and an increased emphasis on preventive care. As a result, the country will need 1.13 million more nurses by 2022, according to the American Nurses Association.

But there is a problem. The healthcare industry cannot keep up with the growing demand for new nurses because there are not enough nurse educators to train them. Without teachers, schools cannot accept new students. According to the National League for Nursing survey, more than half of all nursing schools turn qualified applicants away each year. That means there is tremendous opportunity for nurse educators who are prepared to fill the many open faculty positions. Anyone who chooses to become a nurse educator, will most likely have a choice of employers.
